Adenoma sebaceum is a genetic disease resembling acne. It is often benign (harmless) and does not cause health issues. It is marked by the presence of small lesions on the face. Actually adenoma sebaceum is not a disease but is an indicator of tuberous sclerosis, a disease. The pink colored lesions generally do not cause any problem for the person, except for cosmetic purpose. Your dermatologist will do repair surgery if you have severe symptoms along with other complications involved with tuberous sclerosis.

Laser treatment is given for removing the lesions on the face. Adenoma sebaceum can be detected even at the age of 2-3 years where you can see small pink lesions on the child’s face. These lesions are angiofibromas which is accumulation of fibrous tissue on the blood vessel. Symptoms of adenoma sebaceum include tiny pink lesions on the nose and its sides. The lesions will be small in size and grows bigger as one reaches puberty. The size of the lesions or angiofibromas would be no more than 0.5 cm.

For some children only few lesions are seen but for others more number of lesions are seen on the cheeks and nose and even under the eyes. For some adults lesions can develop on the foreheads and even scalp. Bumps can also develop on the toes and fingernails and in severe cases it can cause tumors or ulcerous growth on the lips and tongue. The condition of adenoma sebaceum is not serious to the health of the person but he should ensure that it does not grow to form tuberous sclerosis. Laser ablation therapy is effective for removing such lesions.
