Development Of The Baby

Your baby will be over 4 pounds at this stage and will be around 14-16 inches long. His growth in size will become almost double in just couple of months from now due to continuous accumulation of fat particles under the skin. Most of his organs will become mature by now and lungs will be able to inflate properly from now on. It will produce a substance called surfactant which will help in preventing the lungs from collapsing soon after birth.

Now he can hear to any sound outside the uterus since his ears are fully developed. He can even hear your breathing rhythm and heartbeat and any music you listen to. He can also hear other voices when you are engaged in conversation with them. His fingernails and toenails are fully formed at this stage and sometimes he would scratch himself on his body accidentally.

It is necessary that you remain well hydrated at this stage since your baby needs amniotic fluid for his life. Hence you need to visit your doctor regularly to assure that there is no problem. Amniotic fluid is the only source of food for him which he would swallow for getting essential nutrients and eliminate as feces. In case there is plenty of amniotic fluid inside your uterus there is chance that your baby has not swallowed food properly and may have gastrointestinal problem. In case there is little of amniotic fluid then it can be due to problems in urinary tract or kidneys of your baby.
